What Film Genre Best Represents Your Business?
Sometimes the most thought-provoking questions are the ones you don’t see coming.
I was recently asked which film genre best represents my business. It’s not the kind of question you’d typically expect in a marketing conversation, but it didn’t take long for the answer to land; the British feel-good film.
You know the storyline. Ordinary people, quietly getting on with things, when a challenge appears. It might be unexpected, it might feel uncomfortable, and at times it can seem like the odds are firmly stacked against them.
But instead of stepping back, they adapt. They collaborate. They find practical ways forward.
And that’s exactly what business looks like in reality.
Behind every organisation are real people navigating shifting markets, evolving customer expectations and the constant balancing act of growth. Success rarely comes from big, dramatic moments. More often, it’s built through consistency, resilience and a willingness to keep moving forward, even when things feel uncertain.
Much like those films, there are plot twists along the way. There are tougher days, unexpected hurdles and moments where decisions matter more than ever. But there’s also creativity, humour and a shared sense of purpose that keeps everything progressing.
That’s where the real story lies.
Because when you strip it back, business isn’t about perfection or polished narratives. It’s about people working together to create something better. It’s about progress over perfection, and solutions over setbacks.
And, just like any good feel-good film, the outcome isn’t about dramatic endings. It’s about meaningful ones. The quiet satisfaction of knowing challenges were faced head-on, progress was made, and something stronger was built in the process.
Perhaps that’s why the comparison fits so well.
Business, like those films, is grounded, human and full of character. It doesn’t always follow a neat script, but it carries purpose, momentum and, importantly, optimism.
So, if I had to choose a film genre to represent my business, it would be the British feel-good film every time.
Honest, resilient and always moving forward.
