What makes marketing good?

I love nothing better than seeing a good piece of marketing and if you follow me on Twitter @marketingdoris, I will occasionally point out something that I consider is #goodmarketing.

What makes marketing goodSometimes it's an advert on the TV, an engaging social media campaign, an eye-catching billboard or a well designed piece of packaging.

.. but what makes it good? Is it down to my personal taste – after all what I consider a clever promotion, you may find cheesy and naff.

For me, a good piece of marketing is when it's innovative, or when it makes me smile (or even better laugh) but more importantly when it delivers a clear message that answers the What, Why, Where and When questions.

Good marketing doesn't even have to have had large budgets and the best creative minds in the country behind it. As long as it meets the businesses objectives, answers the questions that a potential customer would have and is visible in a place where they are going to see it, then you're half way there.
